In South India, the gundu mala (a necklace of round silver or gold beads) has been worn by women for generations. It’s simple, timeless and full of quiet grace. The Gulabi Kemp set takes that classic and adds a bloom of colour.

Two strands of hollow 925 sterling silver beads fall softly together, linked by fine wire so the necklace drapes and moves beautifully. Near the shoulders, the strands meet a cascade of flower motifs set with rose-pink kemp stones, the jewel-toned stones loved in South Indian temple jewellery. Each flower has a sparkling white stone at its centre. The beads are hollow, so the necklace looks generous but feels surprisingly light to wear all day.

It comes with matching earrings: a pink kemp flower stud with a delicate silver bead and ghungroo drop.

It’s beautifully made and quietly elegant. The flowers sit on the collarbone as a pretty frame for a saree blouse, while the double strand falls gracefully down the front. Wear it with a Kanjivaram or handloom saree, a cotton kurta, or a simple black dress for a soft, modern look.

  Care: Hollow beads are light but can dent, so store the necklace flat in a box or pouch and avoid pressing or crushing it. Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Don’t use silver dip, because it can seep into the hollow beads and dull the kemp stones. Keep away from perfume, lotion and water.
